Book scholarships are available for single mothers whose children are still dependents. Four book scholarships for $250 are available for fall quarter (applications due May 30). Watch the focus or come by Monroe 207 for more details.
Noncurrent Scholarships
Women's Opportunity Award
Amount: The local winner will receive a $500 award. Regional and national awards are between $1000 and $10,000.
Eligibility: Soroptimist International of Spokane is again sponsoring its annual Women’s Opportunity Award. Applicants should have primary financial responsibility for their families.
Deadline: Deadline for submission to local chapter is December 1. If you download the application from the Web, read the application deadline information carefully. There are two different deadlines listed. Deadline for submission is December 1 to local chapter member Dottie Godley, 4412 North Maple, Spokane WA 99205. The local chapter will then submit the local winning application to the national organization by December 15.

Rural American Scholarship Fund
Amount: Successful applicants receive at least $1500 awards; up to $9000 depending on program costs. First-time awards are generous and based on the applicant's academic program costs.
Eligibility: Qualifications are need-based. Applicants must have 90 credits by the beginning of fall quarter 2008; have turned 23 by September 1, 2008; taken a break between high school and college; be a legal resident of the state in which they attend college (or on a reciprocal agreement); reside or hail from a rural community in the United States; be enrolled full time; and have a 2.8 or higher GPA. This scholarship for women and men is open to all majors. Masters students should first contact Rural America Scholarship Fund with questions.
Deadline: Applications will be accepted no earlier than January 1 for the following school year. Applications are to be postmarked by March 15 of the current academic year.

Women's Studies Scholars Award, 2008-2009
Amount: $1000
Eligibility: This award is open to all Women's and Gender Studies scholars who have a commitment to academic excellence and who plan to graduate with a minor in Women's Studies, a Gender Studies Certificate, an emphasis in Women's Studies as an Interdisciplinary Studies degree, or a Women's and Gender Studies major at Eastern Washington University. Women and men are eligible. Preference will be given to students who have completed at least eight credits in Women's and Gender Studies by the application deadline.

Childcare Scholarship, 2008-2009
Amount: Varies; recent awards have been of $900. The number of scholarships given varies with the success of campus fundraising activities. We hope to assist six Eastern Washington University students in the 2008-09 academic year.
Eligibility: Scholarships are intended to assist student parents with childcare expenses. to be eligible, you must be enrolled full-time (12 credits) at EWU for each quarter you are eligible for scholarship, and your child[ren] must be registered in a licensed childcare service. Only one scholarship per family will be awarded, but both parents may apply.
Deadline: Completed application package must be returned to 207 Monroe by noon, Thursday, April 3, 2008.

American Association of University Women (AAUW), 2008-2009
Amount: Two $2000 scholarships will be awarded
Eligibility: Women 1) who are at least 25 years old by the beginning of the school year and in need of financial assitance; 2) who have made a commitment to a feasible career goal and have demonstrated the ability to succeed; 3) who are enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at EWU, GU, ICN, SCC, SFCC, or Whitworth.
