Interview with Megan C. about her Women's and Gender Studies degree at EWU
In what ways do you use your Women's and Gender Studies degree?
I use my degree all the time. I'm currently pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing. That seems completely unrelated to my undergraduate work in WGST [Women's and Gender Studies], but it's not. I am able to use what I learned in WGST to aid in talking about literature and creative writing and how that relates to feminism, equality, etc. I look at the world through a feminist lens, which is certainly eye opening.
Describe your job.
I'm a Field Organizer in the Public Policy department at [a family planning clinic]. A lot of the work I'm doing currently is with the campus group for choice. I love my job.
Do you have any advice for potential Women's and Gender Studies majors?
Volunteer while you're a student. Pick an organization and dive in. You'll meet people and gain valuable experience. You can even earn college credit. And it's fun!
Would you recommend the major?
Would I recommend the major? Absolutely. I had so much fun as a WGST major. Also, having a degree in WGST helped me get a job I love. It's a degree I use.
